NFL star Ndamukong Suh credits Warren Buffett with teaching him his most surprising lesson: patience.

“Great things come to you with patience,” Suh recalled Buffett telling him. The second essential piece of advice: Surround yourself with the right people.

“If you learn patience and stick with quality people, those two things will serve you well,” Suh said.

To Suh, patience means staying committed to a goal long enough to see it pay off. He contrasts this with modern instant gratification, which once led him to make “terrible investments” when chasing fast returns.

Ultimately, success comes down to two habits: taking the time to understand your moves and being selective about who you bring along.
