The health coaching component targets cardiovascular and metabolic risk directly. Every six months, participants review their blood pressure, weight, and lab results with a medical advisor to adjust their personal goals. The core nutritional framework relies on the MIND diet—rich in leafy greens, berries, unsaturated fats, fish, and whole grains—with researchers tracking its baseline impact on cognition, physical health, and mental well-being.
The Metabolic-Neurological Connection
Metabolic syndrome—a cluster of conditions including central obesity, high blood sugar, dyslipidemia, and hypertension—is strongly linked to both cardiovascular health and cognitive function. Researchers are now investigating whether it also disrupts autonomic nervous system function and accelerates Alzheimer’s risk. In a sub-study of 440 POINTER participants, researchers measured heart rate variability and baroreflex sensitivity against metabolic syndrome markers to map this relationship directly.
Sleep and circadian disruption serve as a critical bridge between these systems. Chronic sleep loss drives the accumulation of amyloid-β and tau proteins, impairs brain waste clearance, and worsens vascular-metabolic dysfunction—all while undermining memory consolidation.
